SCA World of Coffee is an international family of specialty coffee trade shows, bringing together coffee producers, roasters, equipment makers, buyers and baristas. Organised by the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA), directly or with regional partners, it combines exhibitions, tastings, education and selected competitions across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, North America and Latin America.
In short
- Choose the edition by its host city and year: World of Coffee is not one exhibition held in a permanent location.
- North America’s Specialty Coffee Expo adopted the World of Coffee name in 2026.
- The programme varies by edition, so check the exhibitor list, education schedule and championship allocation separately.
- As of 2 November 2026, the announced 2027 hosts are Dubai, New Orleans, Tokyo, Lisbon and Bogotá.
- Register through the relevant official event website, and check whether workshops or particular activities need separate booking.
What is SCA World of Coffee?
World of Coffee is principally a trade event: a meeting place for people growing, sourcing, roasting, preparing and selling coffee, alongside the businesses supplying their equipment and services. Coffee tasting is part of the attraction, but the exhibition also supports sourcing conversations, product demonstrations, professional learning and commercial relationships.
For a newcomer, the simplest distinction is between an industry exhibition and a consumer festival. At World of Coffee, a conversation might concern a delicious espresso, but it might equally concern green coffee supply, packaging or a roasting business. Our guide to coffee trade shows explains that distinction more broadly.
It is also worth separating three names:
- SCA is the Specialty Coffee Association behind the event family.
- World of Coffee is the exhibition and education brand.
- World Coffee Championships are competitions that may take place alongside an edition.
These overlap, but they are not interchangeable. Attending a World of Coffee show does not mean that every world championship will be there.

Who organises it?
The SCA is the organisation behind World of Coffee, but regional delivery arrangements differ. That matters when finding the correct registration contact, exhibitor team or programme information.
For example, the official Tokyo 2027 information identifies the SCA as the event owner, Exporum as the organiser and the Specialty Coffee Association of Japan as the host. The SCA’s Jakarta announcement similarly distinguished its licensed delivery partner from the Indonesian host association.
The practical rule is to start with the central World of Coffee calendar, then follow the link to your chosen edition. Do not assume that registration arrangements, entry conditions or education bookings are identical across the series.
Where does World of Coffee take place?
World of Coffee has a longstanding European identity, but describing it only as a European exhibition is now incomplete. Its event family also includes editions in the Middle East, Asia, North America and Latin America.
The following is a selected recent history and announced forward calendar, checked on 2 November 2026. Earlier dates are past events, not opportunities to book.
| Regional edition | Selected recent locations | Announced 2027 edition |
|---|---|---|
| Europe | Copenhagen, 27 to 29 June 2024; Geneva, 26 to 28 June 2025; Brussels, 25 to 27 June 2026 | Lisbon, 17 to 19 June |
| Middle East | Dubai, established as a regional edition in 2022 | Dubai, 26 to 28 January |
| Asia | Busan, 1 to 4 May 2024; Jakarta, 15 to 17 May 2025 | Tokyo, 28 April to 1 May |
| North America | San Diego, 10 to 12 April 2026, following the Specialty Coffee Expo rebrand | New Orleans, 9 to 11 April |
| Latin America | Panama City, 23 to 25 October 2026 | Bogotá, 30 September to 2 October |
The Asian expansion began with Busan in 2024. Jakarta followed in 2025, which the SCA described specifically as the first World of Coffee Asia held in a coffee-producing country. That wording is more precise than making an unqualified claim about every event in the wider series.
In North America, the change was a rebrand of an existing exhibition, not the creation of an unrelated show. Houston hosted the final edition under the Specialty Coffee Expo name in April 2025; San Diego introduced the World of Coffee name in April 2026. The background belongs in our Specialty Coffee Expo guide.
For UK readers planning ahead, Lisbon is the announced European edition for 2027. Nevertheless, choose by the people, exhibitors and programme you need to see, rather than assuming the European show is automatically the right one. Recheck official dates and venues before making travel arrangements.
What is on the exhibition floor?
The programme is best understood as several activities sharing one event, rather than an uninterrupted sequence of tastings.
Exhibitors and product demonstrations
Exhibitors present products and services across the coffee industry. Depending on the edition, the floor includes businesses concerned with coffee supply, roasting, brewing and the supporting work of running a coffee operation.
Use demonstrations to ask specific questions. If you are investigating workplace equipment, for example, ask about cleaning routines, milk handling, water requirements, installation and UK service coverage. Treat statements made on a stand as supplier claims until you have the relevant published specification or written confirmation.
Roaster and producer areas
Roaster Villages bring roasters together in dedicated areas where visitors can taste coffee and speak to the people presenting it. They offer a useful starting point if your main interest is roasted coffee rather than machinery.
Producer Villages, where included, provide space for green coffee producers and related sourcing businesses. Green coffee means coffee that has been processed and dried but not yet roasted. These conversations concern a different part of the supply chain from choosing a finished bag for an office kitchen.
Cupping rooms
Cupping is a structured way of tasting and comparing coffees. Dedicated cupping rooms allow exhibitors to present coffees outside the main flow of stand demonstrations.
Check the individual session description before attending. A tasting arranged for potential green coffee buyers may have a different purpose from an introductory sensory session. If you are new, tell the host rather than trying to imitate everyone else in silence.
Which competitions can you watch?
Championship allocations change between years and cities. The correct question is not simply “Does World of Coffee have competitions?” but “Which competitions are confirmed for this edition?”
Brussels 2026 hosted the World Brewers Cup, World Coffee in Good Spirits Championship and World Coffee Roasting Championship. That did not make it the venue for every world title.
For 2027, the official Tokyo event information lists the World Barista Championship as its concurrent event. Lisbon’s published programme lists the World Latte Art Championship, World Coffee in Good Spirits Championship and Cezve/Ibrik Championship.
Product and design awards are a separate category. The Best New Product and Coffee Design Awards concern industry products and design, rather than a barista’s performance on a championship stage.
For planning, identify the competition first, then check its host show and detailed timetable. Avoid building a visit around a previous year’s allocation.
What education does World of Coffee offer?
Education combines talks with more participatory learning, although the balance varies by edition.
The SCA Lecture Series covers subjects such as coffee science, sustainability, quality and business. Workshops provide a more practical format, with activities intended to build skills rather than simply present information.
Read the learning objectives before choosing a session. A beginner needs an accessible explanation and useful foundations; an experienced roaster may need a narrowly defined technical subject. An impressive title alone does not tell you which audience the session serves.
Booking arrangements also matter. Lisbon’s published information says its lecture sessions are included with a valid badge and operate on a first-come, first-served basis, while workshops require additional registration. Do not automatically apply those arrangements to another city.
Nor should you assume that an event workshop provides an SCA qualification. The SCA describes these workshops as complementing its certificate-based education programmes, rather than replacing them. Check the exact course description if a recognised qualification is your objective.
How to attend World of Coffee
Use this sequence to turn a large exhibition into a manageable visit.
- Define your purpose. Write down the questions you want answered: sourcing coffee, understanding equipment, meeting partners, learning a skill or watching a named competition.
- Choose the edition. Compare the official exhibitor directory, championship allocation and developing education programme.
- Read the entry conditions. Check eligibility, age restrictions, accessibility information and the scope of the visitor badge. Do not assume that every regional edition has identical rules.
- Register through the official event site. As checked in November 2026, New Orleans says visitor registration opens in January 2027. Lisbon says registration will open soon and specifies that attendees must register on their own devices rather than rely on onsite registration.
- Reserve individual activities where required. Check workshops, cuppings and meetings separately from general admission.
- Plan the day around fixed appointments. Leave space between sessions for stand conversations and notes, rather than trying to fill every available minute.
If exhibiting, request an itemised written quotation and the exhibitor manual before committing. Confirm what the stand package includes, technical requirements, delivery arrangements and any additional services.
For a workplace procurement visit, take your own requirements sheet: expected daily drinks, busiest serving period, available space, water connection, cleaning responsibility and servicing needs. A good exhibition conversation should end with documents and next steps, not just a memorable cappuccino.
FAQ
Do I need to be an SCA member to attend?
Do not assume membership is a universal entry requirement. Membership and visitor registration are separate matters, but you should read the conditions for your chosen edition before booking. Lisbon’s published information addresses SCA members and other visitors separately; regional entry policies and registration categories should still be checked directly.
Can I watch competitions without travelling?
Some World Coffee Championships provide official online coverage. The Brussels 2026 championship page offered livestream viewing and directed viewers to recordings on the championships’ YouTube channel. Check the relevant championship page for future coverage, because a broadcast arrangement for one event does not guarantee the same schedule elsewhere.
Is everything described as an exhibition feature open to every visitor?
No, access can depend on the activity and your registration category. For example, Lisbon’s Coffee Business Lounge has specified eligibility conditions, rather than unrestricted access for all badge holders. Check the details for lounges, workshops and hosted activities individually, especially if one particular feature is the reason for your visit.
Where to go next
Read Coffee Events and Festivals to place World of Coffee within the wider events calendar, then Coffee Trade Shows and Expos to decide whether a professional exhibition suits your purpose. Specialty Coffee Expo explains the North American event behind the rebrand, useful when older references use a different name for today’s World of Coffee series.
