The main UK office coffee machine brands include JURA, Franke, WMF, Schaerer, Coffetek, Necta, Bravilor Bonamat, Rex-Royal, Eversys, Gaggia Milano and La Cimbali, alongside workplace drinks systems from Lavazza/FLAVIA and Costa Express. Choose between them by machine class, peak demand, drinks menu, cleaning responsibility and local service provision, rather than the badge alone.
In short
- Separate equipment manufacturers from branded coffee-service packages: they are not interchangeable purchasing propositions.
- WMF and Schaerer belong to Groupe SEB; Necta and Gaggia Milano belong to Evoca Group. Shared ownership does not mean identical machines or service contracts.
- FLAVIA uses sealed Freshpacks, not whole beans. Lavazza Professional also offers other machine classes.
- Compare the exact configuration, including milk system, water connection, accessories and cleaning requirements.
- Get itemised written quotations and postcode-specific service commitments before choosing a supplier.
How to compare UK office coffee machine brands
This guide uses five criteria: machine class, drinks capability, workplace fit, UK support route and operational requirements. The suitability comments below are editorial judgements based on manufacturers’ published ranges, not results from first-hand testing or an independent reliability survey.
A bean-to-cup machine grinds whole beans and brews automatically. A traditional espresso machine uses a removable portafilter and needs someone to prepare the coffee; a filter brewer makes a batch for a jug or serving container. Portion systems use pre-measured packs or capsules.
These distinctions matter more than nationality. A Swiss brand is not automatically suitable for a large office, and an Italian espresso-machine maker may offer both staffed and self-service equipment.
“Country of origin” below means brand heritage, not a guarantee about where every current model is manufactured.
The brands, their origins and their groups
Ownership and published ranges checked in November 2026. The owner column identifies the operating company or relevant coffee-machine group, rather than attempting to list every investment holding company.
| Brand | Country of origin | Brand owner or group | Typical machine classes |
|---|---|---|---|
| JURA | Switzerland | JURA Elektroapparate AG | Professional automatic bean-to-cup |
| Franke | Switzerland | Franke Group, within Artemis Group | Commercial automatic and hybrid-style coffee systems |
| WMF | Germany | Groupe SEB | Automatic bean-to-cup, filter and automated portafilter systems |
| Schaerer | Switzerland | Groupe SEB | Configurable commercial automatic bean-to-cup |
| Coffetek | United Kingdom | Azkoyen Group | Tabletop automatic drinks machines and vending |
| Necta | Italy | Evoca Group | Tabletop coffee machines and freestanding vending |
| Bravilor Bonamat | Netherlands | Family-owned Bravilor Bonamat business | Filter, bean-to-cup and instant drinks machines |
| Rex-Royal | Switzerland | Owner-managed Rex-Royal AG | Professional automatic bean-to-cup |
| Eversys | Switzerland | De’Longhi Group’s professional division | Commercial automatic espresso systems |
| Gaggia Milano, professional | Italy | Evoca Group | Traditional espresso and superautomatic machines |
| La Cimbali | Italy | Cimbali Group | Traditional espresso and fully automatic machines |
| Lavazza / FLAVIA | Italy for Lavazza; UK roots for FLAVIA | Lavazza Group, ultimately Luigi Lavazza S.p.A. | Bean-to-cup, capsules and Freshpack systems |
| Costa Express | United Kingdom | Costa Coffee, owned by The Coca-Cola Company | Branded self-service coffee solutions |
JURA
JURA’s professional range centres on countertop bean-to-cup machines, including black-coffee-only and milk-capable options. It is a useful starting point for offices wanting automatic coffee without a staffed espresso station; our JURA office guide covers the range in detail.
The published UK contact is JURA Products Ltd. Check whether the proposed support means on-site attendance, workshop repair or a replacement arrangement, rather than assuming these are equivalent.
Franke
Franke emphasises modular commercial systems, with configurable milk, cleaning and drink options. It merits consideration where the office wants a tailored self-service menu, but the quotation needs to identify every included module.
Franke Coffee Systems has a UK customer-support operation. Use the Franke office guide to examine configuration choices rather than selecting by machine size alone.
WMF
WMF offers a broad professional range spanning automatic bean-to-cup, filter brewing and automated portafilter equipment. That breadth makes it relevant when a workplace needs different solutions for individual drinks, meeting refreshments and staffed service.
Its UK operation is SEB Professional UK Limited. Compare the quoted machine’s milk and cleaning configuration carefully: a family name does not establish which options are fitted.
Schaerer
Schaerer’s published proposition centres on configurable automatic coffee machines, self-service operation and digital management. It is worth considering when recipe flexibility and managing several machines are part of the brief.
The manufacturer provides a UK website, contact route and partner finder. Ask it to confirm the proposed supplier’s status and who will deliver installation and repairs locally.
Coffetek
Coffetek is a UK-origin manufacturer within Spain’s Azkoyen Group. Its range bridges office coffee and vending, with tabletop equipment and different ingredient formats, including whole-bean and soluble configurations.
This makes it relevant for workplaces wanting coffee alongside other hot drinks. Ask which ingredients each recipe actually uses, and whether the quoted milk system is fresh milk or powder. Coffetek provides technical resources for dealers and professional repairers.
Necta
Necta combines tabletop coffee equipment with freestanding vending. Its range is relevant when coffee forms part of a wider unattended refreshment service, rather than being the only requirement.
Evoca lists a UK subsidiary as the local group contact. Specify the coffee, milk and payment configuration in writing: “Necta vending machine” is too broad a description for comparing proposals.
Bravilor Bonamat
Bravilor Bonamat deserves attention for filter coffee as well as bean-to-cup. Offices serving meeting rooms should consider whether batch brewing would meet that task better than making every drink individually.
The family-owned Dutch business lists Bravilor Ltd. as its UK subsidiary. Establish who provides field maintenance under the proposed agreement, rather than treating a UK sales presence as a repair commitment.
Rex-Royal
Rex-Royal is an owner-managed Swiss family business specialising in professional automatic coffee machines. Its published range includes coffee, milk and hot-water equipment.
Consider it where a commercial automatic system fits the workplace brief. Its international contact page directs enquiries through the manufacturer; obtain written confirmation of the UK distributor, parts arrangements and service provider before shortlisting a particular model.
Eversys
Eversys makes professional automatic espresso systems and sits within De’Longhi Group’s professional division. It is a relevant candidate when the brief puts particular emphasis on espresso preparation and commercial operation.
Eversys lists a UK office in Crawley. Do not assume that its commercial positioning makes it necessary for every office: request a demonstration against your actual drinks and busiest serving period.
Gaggia Milano
For this guide, Gaggia Milano means the professional Evoca range, which includes traditional espresso and superautomatic machines. It should not be confused with choosing a domestic Gaggia machine for shared workplace use.
The first decision is whether someone will operate the machine or staff will serve themselves. Use Evoca’s UK contact to establish the appropriate commercial supply and support route.
La Cimbali
La Cimbali belongs to Italy’s Cimbali Group and offers both traditional and fully automatic machines. It therefore deserves consideration for staffed workplace hospitality as well as automatic coffee service.
The manufacturer maintains a dedicated UK website. Ask for the exact machine class and local support arrangements: experience with a traditional espresso machine does not automatically describe the automatic range.
Lavazza / FLAVIA
Lavazza Professional supplies several workplace formats, including bean-to-cup, capsule and FLAVIA Freshpack systems. FLAVIA brews from sealed individual packs, so it is not a bean-to-cup alternative in the literal sense.
Consider it when individually selected coffee, tea and other drinks matter. Check compatible supplies and waste handling. Brand heritage also differs from manufacture: Lavazza’s published statement says its UK-market FLAVIA machines are made by a third-party manufacturer in China.
Costa Express
Costa Express is a branded self-service coffee proposition, not simply another equipment manufacturer. Costa Coffee Professional offers workplace solutions with equipment, operational support and maintenance as part of a wider service package.
It suits buyers seeking a Costa-branded offer rather than unrestricted equipment selection. Costa says it does not sell these machines individually, so compare the full agreement, including responsibilities and supply conditions.
Match capacity to attendance, not payroll
Start with people actually present, then add visitors and meeting demand. The following is an illustrative planning matrix, not manufacturer guidance or a recommended machine rating.
Assumption: each person present drinks two machine-made drinks per working day.
| People present | Assumed drinks per person | Calculated daily drinks | What to investigate |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 | 2 | 40 | Countertop capacity and refill arrangements |
| 50 | 2 | 100 | Peak queues, milk replenishment and waste |
| 100 | 2 | 200 | Multiple coffee points and continuity during faults |
Daily demand equals attendance multiplied by drinks per person. Separately record demand during the busiest break: ask suppliers to demonstrate that sequence using your intended drink sizes and milk drinks.
Check the UK service agreement separately
A manufacturer, distributor, drinks supplier and maintenance contractor can have different roles. The published UK contacts above establish an enquiry route, not a promise about your contract.
Ask each bidder to identify:
- The business responsible for installation, warranty work and routine servicing.
- Whether your postcode is covered by its own engineers or a subcontractor.
- The difference between telephone response, attendance and restoration of service.
- Weekend coverage, exclusions, replacement equipment and parts availability.
- Who performs daily cleaning, replenishment and waste removal.
Avoid ranking brands by unsupported claims about reliability. Request evidence relevant to the proposed machine and service arrangement.
How to compare quotations fairly
Give every supplier the same written specification, then follow this sequence.
- Define the drinks. List recipes, serving sizes, decaffeinated requirements and milk choices. Ask suppliers to identify what is standard and what needs an accessory.
- Fix the configuration. Record the exact machine, grinders, hoppers, cooler, water connection, drainage, payment equipment and software.
- Demonstrate the work. Watch drink preparation, replenishment, grounds disposal and the complete cleaning routine. Identify who will do each task.
- Complete a site survey. Confirm access, clearances, electrical supply, water treatment and installation responsibilities.
- Compare the agreement. Check ownership, term, renewal, termination, supply commitments, warranty exclusions and service obligations.
For plumbed installations in England and Wales, require confirmation of compliance with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999, including appropriate backflow protection. Ask suppliers to identify the applicable requirements elsewhere in the UK.
For equipment with steam boilers in Great Britain, check with the supplier and HSE guidance on pressure systems, including whether a written scheme of examination is required.
Build your own whole-term comparison
Request itemised written quotations covering equipment, installation, accessories, ingredients, water treatment, cleaning products, maintenance, repairs, software, staff time and end-of-term obligations. Have your finance team establish a consistent VAT basis and any recoverability assumptions.
Choose one comparison period and the same drinks forecast for every proposal. Add all applicable items over that period, then divide by the expected number of drinks if you need an internal per-drink measure.
Keep contractual commitments visible rather than burying them in that calculation. For UK office coffee machine brands, the useful comparison is the complete workplace arrangement, not the machine badge in isolation.
FAQ
Does shared ownership mean two brands use the same machines?
No, shared ownership does not establish that machines, parts or service agreements are interchangeable. WMF and Schaerer share Groupe SEB ownership, while Necta and professional Gaggia Milano belong to Evoca. Compare the exact products and contracts offered, and ask for written confirmation before assuming common components or support.
Can we use our own coffee beans?
Check the proposed agreement before assuming you can choose any supplier. Ask bidders to state permitted ingredients, any supply commitments and the process for changing coffee. For FLAVIA, the relevant question is compatible Freshpacks rather than beans, because its brewing system uses sealed individual packs.
Which brand is most reliable?
This guide does not establish a reliability winner. Manufacturer descriptions and published specifications are not an independent, comparable failure-rate study. Ask shortlisted suppliers for relevant service records, references from similar workplaces and clear restoration arrangements. Treat a promise to answer the telephone separately from a commitment to restore coffee service.
